Rediscover Your Creative Self, Knit or Crochet
with Classic Yarns of Grafton
By Linda Gay, Special Assignments
How many of you are like me and have tucked away at least one knitting, or crocheting project that you started years ago and just put aside one day and never picked up again? With the cold winter months looming, it is just the right time to find those long lost projects, pull them out, dust them off and begin to enjoy the work and quiet of them again. If you have forgotten how to knit and purl, how to use circular needles or just can't figure out your left from your right, Classic Yarns of Grafton has recently opened and is ready for your visit. Owner Eileen Smith can help you gear up to complete that project from years ago, or if you are new to this handcraft hobby, she can teach you one of the most delightful past times. Eileen decided to open the store after a lifetime of working as a nurse and growing wearier every year of the commute to Boston. The space on RTE 122, 202 Worcester Street "kept calling to me," she said, and the knitting craze had been going strong the last few years. Sadly, since 9/11, so many of the quieter pursuits of life have seemed to become more important to the daily fabric of our society. For many people, knitting and crocheting have become a wonderful way to express themselves creatively, share their talent as they create gifts for others, and connect with other artisans and knitting and crocheting enthusiasts.
When you meet Eileen Smith you will know immediately that she is 150% about the knitting, she can't put one of her many projects down while she is talking about the store, her new yarns, the new lines they are carrying and will be bringing in. Some of the current lines are Debbie Bliss, Rowan, Jaeger, Tahki-Stacey Charles, Noro, Brown Sheep, Mountain Colors and Ironstone. The walls are filled floor to ceiling with fabulous yarns, she is well stocked with supplies and right in the middle of it all is this great table surrounded by chairs for customers to sit, chat, knit and collaborate on projects. Although, the Fall Schedule of classes is just finishing up, another one will begin in January and it will include a few Beginners classes, the soup to nuts class from casting on to binding off and the Beyond Beginners for the more advanced knitting crowd. She will also continue to offer one and two session project based workshops for special creations that you start and finish under her tutelage. But, if you are ready like I am to get going now, but need a "support group", Eileen has the two other times that are not exactly classes, but a chance to get together with other knitters and just kibitz around the table, and if you get stuck, someone will be able to help move you to the next step, one is every Friday from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. and the other is called Football Widows and is Sundays from 2:00-4:00 p.m. OPEN EVERY DAY, Store hours are currently 10-5:00 Monday-Saturday, until 7:00 p.m. on Thursdays, and Sundays from 12-4:00 p.m. You can call Eileen to find out more about the winter class schedule at 508-839-6111. What better way can you think of to make the most out of those cold winter afternoons, knit, crochet, and create!
